Do not praise Ibn ʿAbbār, even if his hands rain down
Do not praise the son of Ibn Abbar though his hands may rain
bounty until he puts the steady rains to shame.
Generosity until the clouds themselves feel shamed

يعطي ويمنع لا بخلاً ولا كرما
For these are passing impulses from his inner whisperings:
For these are but passing whims of his fancies
He gives and withholds, out of neither stinginess nor generosity.
That gives and withholds not out of stinginess or nobility
