كحالlike the condition of صدٍa thirsty man طَمَتhave overflowed عليهupon him مناهِلُهhis watering places
I have written to you, Ibn ʿAbbād, and my condition
is like that of a thirsty man whose watering places have overflowed upon him.
وماand not تركتhave left كفّاكyour two hands فيin خصاصةwant
ولكنَّand yet شوقاًlonging قدindeed غلتhave boiled بيwithin me مراجلهits cauldrons
Your hands have not left me in want,
but longing's cauldrons have boiled within me.
أبيتI spend the night إذاwhenever أجريتI bring up ذكركmention of you منشداًreciting
كأنكas though you تعطيهyou give him الذيthat which أنتyou سائلهasking for it
I spend the night, whenever I mention you, reciting:
“As though you were giving him what you ask of him.”
