وهمand they جعلونيthey placed me بينamong عبدٍa slave وقينةٍand a singing girl
ودارٍand a house ودينارand a dinar وثوبٍand a garment ودرهمand a dirham
And they placed me among a slave and a singing girl,
They placed me between a slave, a singing girl
And a house, a dinar, a garment, and a dirham.
A house, a gold coin, a robe, a silver coin
وهمand they تركواthey left الأيامthe days تعجبmarveling أنthat رأتthey saw
سلوِّيmy solace ولاand do not أرقىI ascend السماءthe sky بسلمby a ladder
And they left the days marveling at seeing
And they left the days amazed when they saw
My solace, though I do not climb the sky by a ladder.
My comfort yet I do not ascend to the heavens on a ladder
وهمand they حالفونيthey allied with me أوطأواthey made smooth فيin صلاتهمtheir gifts
وصلتI joined عنon behalf of الأبطالthe heroes شعريmy verse فيهمabout them
And they allied themselves with me, smoothing the way with their gifts.
And they allied with me, mentioned in their prayers
I joined my verse about them on the heroes’ behalf.
My poetry reached the heroes through them
