يبكي من الموت أبو طيبٍ

دمعٌ لعمري غير مرحومِ

دمعٌ لعمري غير مرحومِ

Abu Tayyib weeps for fear of death;

Abu Tayyib weeps for death,

His tears, by my life, are unpitied.

Tears for my life that find no comfort.

ويشتكي ما يشتهي غيره

ويشتكي ما يشتهي غيره

شكاية الخير من الشوم

شكاية الخير من الشوم

And he complains of what another desires,

He laments what others desire,

As goodness complains of ill fortune.

The plaint of goodness from the wicked.

ساكتنا الشيخ أبو طيّبٍ

ساكتنا الشيخ أبو طيّبٍ

والصّمت أحياناً من اللوم

والصّمت أحياناً من اللوم

Sheikh Abu Tayyib has kept silent with us,

Silent is our Shaykh Abu Tayyib,

And silence is sometimes a form of reproach.

And silence is sometimes blame.
