مضت الشبيبة والحبيبة فالتقى
دمعانtwo tears فيin الاجفانthe eyelids يزدحمانboth crowd together
دمعان في الاجفان يزدحمان
Youth and the beloved have departed, and so there met
Youth and my love have passed, so tears meet
Two tears in the eyelids, crowding one another.
In my eyes, crowding together

ما أنصفتني الحادثات رمينني
بمودعينwith two to bid farewell to وليسand there are not ليfor me قلبانtwo hearts
بمودعين وليس لي قلبان
Misfortunes have not treated me fairly; they afflicted me
Fate has not been fair, it threw me
With two to bid farewell to, yet I do not have two hearts.
To those bidding farewell, while I have but one heart
