عَلى سَاعِدِ العَلْيَاءِ تِلكَ الْعَصَائِبُ
The physician made Glory’s blood flow, and bandages were bound
The physician drew glory's blood, and bound were
upon the forearm of Loftiness—those very bands.
those bandages upon the forearm of eminence.
لَئِنْif indeed لاحَappeared فيon عَضْدِupper arm الأَميرِthe prince نَجيعُهُhis blood
لَئِنْ لاحَ في عَضْدِ الأَميرِ نَجيعُهُ
غَدَاةَon the morning جَرَتْflowed فيin الطَّسْتِthe basin مِنْهُfrom him سَباسِبُstreams
غَدَاةَ جَرَتْ في الطَّسْتِ مِنْهُ سَباسِبُ
If the prince’s fresh blood gleamed upon his upper arm
If indeed his blood appeared on the prince's upper arm,
that morning, when streaming tresses of it ran from him into the basin,
on the morning when streams from him flowed into the basin,
فَلاso no غَرْوَwonder للصَّمْصامِfor the keen sword إِنْif مَسَّtouched حَدَّهُits edge
فَلا غَرْوَ للصَّمْصامِ إِنْ مَسَّ حَدَّهُ

دَمٌ وهو مَصْقُولَ الغِرَاريْنِ قاضِبُ
then no marvel if the keen sword’s edge is touched
then it is no wonder if the keen sword's edge is touched
by blood—it is polished on both edges, a cleaving blade.
by blood, while it is polished on both edges and sharp.

And with a lion of the wilds, the eye does not find it strange to see
And the lion of al-Sharā—the eye finds nothing strange in seeing
its paws dyed—and its claws as well.
its paws and claws stained with blood.
