May the rain greet al-Aqiq's ruined camps, though effaced

Are the memories of loved ones and their haunts there.

And clouds wept as I wept upon its hills,

Flashes of lightning and peals of thunder driving them along.

And for youth, in days when my patience was scant

Apart from the sun of his canopy, while my longing grew.

She rose before us, so a rising full moon shone.

Then she swayed, so a swaying branch quivered.

And she wept in sorrow, so molten light poured forth.

And she smiled, so a praising shadow shone.
