Never has praise of you gone free among humankind

except while your wealth was held captive to giving.

You bestowed on us a sun and a full moon, brightening

through them both the pitch-black darkness around us.

A gazelle fawn came to us, a Yusuf in beauty,

    and a she-gazelle, a Bilqis in splendor.

All this, yet you were not content with him and her,

until you sent money, and precious it was.

The maidservant came carrying a purse of coins,

and the moneybag came on the boy-servant's back.

And you clothed us in cloth expertly woven

by Egypt, with Tinnis adding to its beauty.

Thus, through your generosity, we had food and

    drink, sexual partners, and clothing.
