ويَكْشِفُand he reveals بِالآَراءِthrough judgments ماwhat كَانَwas مُشْكِلاًobscure
ويَكْشِفُ بِالآَراءِ ما كَانَ مُشْكِلاً
ولَوْand even if كَانَwas فيin طَيِّthe folds الضَّميرِthe inner mind مُكَتَّماkept secret
ولَوْ كَانَ في طَيِّ الضَّميرِ مُكَتَّما
And through his judgments he makes clear what was obscure,
He reveals with opinions what was problematic
even if it lay concealed in the folds of the mind.
Even if it was in the folds of the conscience concealed
يَرىhe considers العارَshame أَنْto يَثْنيturn back العَنانَthe rein عَنْaway from الرَّدىdeath
يَرى العارَ أَنْ يَثْني العَنانَ عَنْ الرَّدى
إِذاwhen ماemphatic particle ثَنىturned back الطَّعْنُspear-thrusts الوَشيحَthe mighty warrior المُقْرَماthe honored champion
إِذا ما ثَنى الطَّعْنُ الوَشيحَ المُقْرَما
He deems it shameful to turn his rein away from death,
He sees shame in pulling the reins back from transgression
when spear-thrusts turn back the mighty, honored champion.
When the sharp criticism of the slanderer is twisted
يَرُدُّhe brings back غِرارَthe edge المشْرَفيَّthe Mashrafī sword مُثَلَّماًnotched
يَرُدُّ غِرارَ المشْرَفيَّ مُثَلَّماً
ضِراباًthrough striking وصدَرand the forepart الرّاعِبيَّthe Raʿibī spear مُحَطَّماshattered
ضِراباً وصدَر الرّاعِبيَّ مُحَطَّما
He brings back the Mashrafī sword’s edge notched
He returns the deceit of the arrogant torn apart
from striking, and the Raʿibī spear’s forepart shattered.
Striking and the chest of the intimidator shattered
ومُنْتَقِمٍand an avenger حَتَّىuntil إِذاwhen ماemphatic particle تَمَكَّنَتْgained mastery
ومُنْتَقِمٍ حَتَّى إِذا ما تَمَكَّنَتْ
يَميناهُhis two right hands مِنْover أَعْدائِهِhis enemies ظَلَّhe remained مُنْعِماbestowing favors
يَميناهُ مِنْ أَعْدائِهِ ظَلَّ مُنْعِما
And an avenger—yet once mastery is gained
And avenging until when his right hand overpowered
by his two right hands over his enemies, he continues bestowing favors.
His enemies, it remained bestowing favor
