وكَمْand many مِنْof عَدُوٍّan enemy صَارَbecame بَعْدَafter عَداوَةٍenmity

صَديقاً مُجِلاًّ في المَجالِسِ مُعْظِما
And many an enemy, after enmity, has become
How many a foe, after enmity's ended,
A friend, showing reverence and esteem in gatherings.
Became a dear friend, honoured in gatherings,
ولاand no غَرْوَwonder فَالعُنْقودُfor the grape cluster مِنْfrom عودِa branch كَرْمَةٍa grapevine

And no wonder, for the cluster from a grapevine's branch
No wonder! For many a grape-cluster, springing
Is seen as ripe grapes after having been sour, unripe grapes.
From the vine-branch, once was but a sour fruit.
