وأَغْيَدَand a supple youth رَوَّتْهُslaked his thirst المُدامَةُthe wine فَانْثَنىso he swayed
كَماjust as يَنْثَنيbends مِنْfrom رَيِّهِits being well watered الغُصُنُthe branch الغَضُّtender
And a supple youth, his thirst slaked by wine, swayed,
The cupbearer has watered it with wine, and so it bent over
As the tender branch bends from being well watered.
As a tender branch bends over from the rain
دَعَوْتُI invited إِلَيْهاto it وَهْوَwhile he فيin دَعْوَةِthe call of الكَرىsleep
وقَدْand already أَخَذَتْhad begun فيto خَلْعِcasting off أَسْوَدِهاits black garb الأَرْضُthe earth
I invited him to it while sleep was calling him,
I called upon her while she was in the embrace of the vineyard
And the earth had begun to cast off its black garb.
And the earth had begun to strip off its dark clothes
فَقامَso he rose وفيand in أَعْطافِهِhis limbs فَضْلُa remnant of سَكْرَةٍdrunkenness
وفيand in عَيْنِهِhis eye مِنْof وَرْدِthe rose of وَجْنَتِهِhis cheek بَعْضُsome
So he rose, with lingering drunkenness in his limbs,
So he got up with the remnants of drunkenness in his sides
And in his eye was some of the rose of his cheek.
And in his eyes some of the roses and gardens
