O Answerer of the prayer of Dhul-Nun,

O You who answer Dhu al-Nun's prayer

O answerer of the supplication of the owner of the fish,

in the depths of the seas,

In the depths of the seas,

In the stillness of the seas,

استجب دعوة المحزون

استجب دعوة المحزون

قد دعا باضطرار

قد دعا باضطرار

answer the sorrowful one's plea:

Answer the sorrowful one's plea;

Respond to the call of the grieved one,

he has called out in dire need.

He has called in desperate need.

Who has supplicated desperately,

يا إلهي طالما أدعو

يا إلهي طالما أدعو

موقنا بالنجاه

موقنا بالنجاه

O my God, long have I prayed,

O my God, long have I prayed,

My God, for long have I been praying,

certain of deliverance;

Certain of deliverance.

Certain of salvation,

ولحالي وقصتي رفع

ولحالي وقصتي رفع

لك يا سيداه

لك يا سيداه

my plight and my story are laid

And my plight and my story are lifted up

And for my state and my story I have raised,

before You, O my Master.

To You, O my Master.

To you my Master,

أنت منك العطاء والمنع

أنت منك العطاء والمنع

أنت أنت الإله

أنت أنت الإله

From You come both giving and withholding;

You—from You come giving and withholding;

You are the giver and withholder,

You—You are God.

You, You are God.

You are You are the God,

لك أمر بالكاف والنون

لك أمر بالكاف والنون

ولك الاقتدار

ولك الاقتدار

Yours is the command of kāf and nūn,

Yours is the command with kaf and nun,

To you belongs the command of “Be” and it is,

and Yours is all power.

And Yours is the power.

And to you belongs power,

أنت من ظلمتي تنجيني

أنت من ظلمتي تنجيني

فبالبدار البدار

فبالبدار البدار

You are the one who saves me from my darkness,

You deliver me from my darkness;

You save me from my darkness,

so hasten—make haste!

So make haste, make haste!

So with the land, the land,

ملجم البحر منك بالقدره

ملجم البحر منك بالقدره

أنت نعم العتاد

أنت نعم العتاد

The sea is bridled by Your power;

By Your power the sea is bridled;

Tamer of the sea, You are with might,

You are the finest provision.

You are the finest resource.

You are best of helpers,

ألجم الضد واكفني شرّه

ألجم الضد واكفني شرّه

واقض لي بالمراد

واقض لي بالمراد

Bridle my foe and shield me from his evil,

Bridle the adversary and protect me from his evil,

Restrain the opponent and spare me its evil,

and grant me what I desire.

And decree for me what I desire.

And fulfill for me the purpose,

رب واجعل هلاكه عبره

رب واجعل هلاكه عبره

لجميع العباد

لجميع العباد

Lord, make his ruin a lesson

Lord, make his destruction a lesson

Lord, make his destruction a lesson,

for all Your servants.

For all Your servants.

For all Your servants,

وأذقه العذاب بالهون

وأذقه العذاب بالهون

وارمه بالدمار

وارمه بالدمار

Make him taste torment in humiliation,

And make him taste torment with humiliation,

And make him taste the gentle torment,

and cast him into destruction.

And strike him with ruin.

And pelt him with destruction,

رب باغ في الناس مفتون

رب باغ في الناس مفتون

في خراب الديار

في خراب الديار

Lord, he is a rebellious man among the people, obsessed

Lord, an oppressor among the people is obsessed

Lord, ruin the seduced among the people,

with laying waste to the land.

With the devastation of homes.

In the ruin of dwellings,

رب بدل عسري بتيسير

رب بدل عسري بتيسير

وأنلني القبول

وأنلني القبول

Lord, exchange my hardship for ease,

Lord, replace my hardship with ease,

Lord, replace my hardship with ease,

and grant me acceptance,

And grant me acceptance,

And grant me acceptance,

بجزيل من حسن ميسور

بجزيل من حسن ميسور

ما إليه وصول

ما إليه وصول

with an abundance of good, readily bestowed,

With abundant goodness made accessible,

With abundant beautiful ease,

within my reach.

Otherwise beyond reach.

To which I can arrive,

رب وافتح أبواب تدبيري

رب وافتح أبواب تدبيري

واقض لي بالدخول

واقض لي بالدخول

Lord, open the doors through which my affairs may prosper,

Lord, open the doors of my plans,

Lord, open doors of my relief,

and grant me entry.

And decree that I may enter.

And fulfill for me the entrance,

بمنائي أقر لي عيني

بمنائي أقر لي عيني

أنت بالعبد بار

أنت بالعبد بار

Fulfill my hopes and thereby gladden my eyes;

With what I long for, bring coolness to my eye;

Into my wishes make my eye delighted,

You are kind to Your servant.
