Oh, how welcome the visitor who came—
Oh, how welcome was the visitor who came!
O blessed be the visitor who visited
as though he were only fetching a flame!
As though he were fetching fire.
As if he is a fire kindled

My soul be your ransom—what a visitor:
My soul be a ransom for you, visitor!
My soul is a ransom for you, o visitor
scarcely had he alighted when they said, “He has gone.”
Scarcely had he arrived when it was said, "He has already departed."
He did not stay until it was said he left

He passed by the house’s door and went on beyond it.
He passed by the house's door, then went past it.
He passed by the door of the house, bypassing it
Oh, if only he had entered the house!
Oh, if only he had entered the house!
If only he had entered the house
