A slave girl whose eyes enchant;
A slave girl whose eyes bewitch;
A girl enchants her eyes
her lower part draws her upper part.
Her lower half pulls at her upper half.
Her lower half attracts her upper half
أَصبَحتُI have become أَهواهاI love her وأَهوىand I desire الرَدىdeath
لِكُلِّfor every مَنone who أَصبَحَhas come to يَهواهاlove her
I have come to love her—and I desire death
I have come to love her, and to desire death
I have become infatuated with her and infatuated with perdition
for everyone who has come to love her.
For everyone who has come to love her.
For everyone who has become infatuated with her
نَفسيmy soul عَلىtoward أَمرَينtwo things مَطبوعَةٌnaturally inclined
حُبّيmy love لَهاfor her أَوor بُغضِhatred of مَولاهاher master
My soul is disposed toward two things:
My soul is inclined toward two things:
My soul is imprinted on two matters
my love for her, or hatred of her master.
My love for her, or hatred of her master.
My love for her or the hatred of her master
قَدindeed مَلَكتَنيshe has possessed me وَهيَand she مَملوكَةٌowned
فَصِرتُso I became أَخشاهُI fear him وأَخشاهاand I fear her
You have possessed me, though she is the one enslaved;
She has possessed me, though she herself is owned;
She has possessed me while she is possessed
so I have come to fear him, and to fear her.
So I have come to fear him and fear her.
So I have come to fear him and fear her
