وَتَغيبُ فيهِ وَهوَ جَثلٌ أَسحَمُ
A fair one trails her tresses though she stands upright;
A fair-skinned woman trails her hair as she stands,
She vanishes within them—they are luxuriant, raven-black.
And vanishes within it, thick and jet-black.
فَكأَنَّهاso she is like فيهِwithin it نَهارٌday ساطِعٌradiant

وَكأَنّهُand it is like لَيلٌnight عَليهاover her مُظلِمُdark
وَكأَنّهُ لَيلٌ عَليها مُظلِمُ
As though amid them she were radiant day,
So within it she is like a radiant day,
And they, upon her, were a darksome night.
And it is like a dark night over her.
