وَطُلول مَمحوَّة الآياتِ

The vestige of a dwelling, its courtyards worn away,

A dwelling's site, its courtyards effaced,

A quarter of a house with plastered courts,

and ruins whose signs have been erased—

And ruins whose traces are erased.

And tall palm trees with erased verses,

خَفَق الدَهرُ فَوقها بِجناحَي

ن مَريشَين بِالبَلى والشَتاتِ

Time has beaten above them with two wing—

Time fluttered above them on two wings,
