May God preserve the days on the sandy tract of the protected pasture,
God tended for some days the most delicate coals
Days gone by for a lovelorn man, when life beneath their shade was a dream.
For a youth now past, whose life in its shade was a dream

His heart, longing for days of union—gone are
He protected it for days of separation that grew feeble
Their beginnings—has now vanished without a trace.
Its early time is now gone and it has no shape
