    وَإِن ظَمئت يَوماً فَأَنتُم فُراتُها

    If my soul falls ill, you are its physicians;

And if it thirsts one day, you are its sweet water.

From you it has a love whose fame has spread,

And the caravan has spoken of it while its camel-drivers chant.

So what is this report that a faction has embellished,

Which its misguided members fabricated about me this morning?

In their ignorance, they want me to forget my love for you,

Yet souls could never forget their very life.

If people have attributed an offense to me,

They, by the rightful Imam, are truly its perpetrators.

And none insults a person but one who passes on

Serpents of speech, among which their charmers lingered.

If news from a wrongdoer comes suddenly,

Verify it, for a soul's piety is its adornment.

After my allegiance, am I today to become a foe of the Prophet's family?

Oh, what a predicament, in which its own guides are bewildered!

And this is nothing but a petty slander of Mistah's,

Who slandered; to me, the worst of people are those who spread it.

They have attributed to me what I never uttered,

And reports have no bane but their transmitters.
