The eglantine has flirted with the narcissus's gaze

In a gathering—may such a gathering be watered with rain!

It gazes toward it, as, for fear of the

watchers, slender maidens gazed through drowsy eyes.

And rain has made the rose blush, as though it were

a cheek grown rosy from the flame of my breath.

Among young men, the gardens of their affection unfurled,

and outshone the blossoms of secluded maidens.

The pure wine of remembering you went round among them,

so they began to sway like swaying branches.

They hope for your coming, that their joy may be complete

and their eyes be gladdened, O life of souls.

May your rose remain blooming in its garden,

and your luxuriant youth remain splendidly clad,

as long as gray doves warble high in a grove,

in a garden clothed in bordered robes of fine silk.
