خَفِfear اللَهِGod ماwhat ليhave I وَحُبِّand love of الكَواعِبbudding-breasted maidens
خَفِ اللَهِ ما لي وَحُبِّ الكَواعِب
فَلِلناسso people have فيin العِشقِpassionate love قالواthey said مَذاهِبpaths
فَلِلناس في العِشقِ قالوا مَذاهِب
Fear God! What have I to do with loving budding-breasted maidens?
For people, they say, have different paths in love.
مَتىwhen حازَoccupied بَدرٌa full moon جَميعَall المَساكِنthe dwellings
مَتى حازَ بَدرٌ جَميعَ المَساكِن
فَحُبّيfor my beloved فَريدٌpeerless بِصَدغٍin a sidelock وَحاجِبand an eyebrow
فَحُبّي فَريدٌ بِصَدغٍ وَحاجِب
When has a full moon ever occupied all the dwellings?
For my beloved is peerless in sidelock and brow.
