رحب المدى والصدر والميدان
I fell in love with a lion-devouring horseman,
The predator of battles hung a knight,
Broad in reach, in chest, and in the arena.
Spacious in extent, chest, and battlefield.

He shoots at hearts with his glances and his arrow;
He casts with his glances hearts and his arrow,
So I marveled at how alike the two arrows were.
So I wondered how did the two arrows resemble.

The full moon in the shadow of the clouds and the bright stars,
In his saddle, and the branch in the quilted coat.
In its saddlebags, and the branch in wrapping.

I befriended his way and his pride, yet
Night and dawn had never been in harmony.
The darkness and dawn were not to befriended.

And his forehead like its bending bow.

I greeted him so he approached and rained on my palm
With kisses—if only my mouth were in place of my fingertips!
A kiss - if only my mouth was in place of my palm!

And I deceived him with the chalice until he calmed down for me,
And through concealment warded the prescribed punishment off myself.
And I warded off harm with concealment.

ناسى العواقب آمن الحدثان
And a man, while a chance for pleasure engrosses him,
A person busied with an opportunity of pleasure
Forgets consequences and feels safe from time's calamities.
Forgets the consequences, believes the events.
