Drink, you two, and pour for a young man who keeps company with the

days, his soul full of desires.

والنفوس الكبار تأنف للسا

دة أن يشربوا بغير الكبار

دة أن يشربوا بغير الكبار

And great souls deem it beneath

lords to drink with any but the great.

في جوار الصبا نحلّ بيوتاً

عمرت بالغصون والأقمار

عمرت بالغصون والأقمار

In youth’s neighborhood, we settle in houses

filled with boughs and moons.

وتصلي على أذان للطنابير

وتصلي على أذان للطنابير

ونصغي لنغمة الأوتار

ونصغي لنغمة الأوتار

And we pray at the tambours’ call to prayer

and listen to the melody of the strings,

بين قوم إمامهم ساجد

بين قوم إمامهم ساجد

للكأس أو راكع على المزمار

للكأس أو راكع على المزمار

among people whose prayer leader prostrates himself

before the cup or bows over the reed pipe.
