الدهر يلعب بالفتى فيهيضه

طورا ويحبر عظمه فيراش
Time toys with a young man, breaking him
Time plays with youth making it gallop
At times, then mends his bone, and he is enriched.
Then shatters its bones leaving them scattered
وكذاand thus رأيناwe have seen الدهرTime فيin اعراضهits turning away
وكذا رأينا الدهر في اعراضه
ينحىit strikes down وفيand in إقبالهits turning toward him يتناشit reaches out to save
ينحى وفي إقباله يتناش
Thus have we seen Time: when it turns away,
Thus we saw time in its withdrawals
It strikes him down; when it turns toward him, it reaches out to save him.
