O sky, fall, and O earth, reel!
O sky, pour down, and O earth, extend,
Ibn al-Baridi has assumed the vizierate.
The son of Al-Bureedi has undertaken the ministry,

Grave is the calamity; an intractable crisis has struck,
He has undertaken grave affairs and solved complex problems,
and a scourge that has turned an infant's head gray.
Problems that have made the hair of Al-Waleed turn white,

Islam's pillar was shattered, and kingship was profaned;
He has supported the pillar of Islam and restored the violated kingdom,
its traces were erased, so it is doomed.
And erased its traces, so he is guiding,

Time's splendor has grown threadbare, just as
He has brought joy to the times, just as
long wear frays the patterned weave of striped cloaks.
The length of clothes brings warmth and cools fever,

My torment and baptized heart,

The Imam had favored him with them, singling him out,
The Imam has endowed him with his selection
and placing his trust in one who was no pillar of support:
And trust without equal,

And assassinate him like hunting prey,

ليس ممن يصاد بالتقليد
He is more lecherous than you reckon; indeed,
But he is wiser than you can imagine,
he is not one to be caught by investiture.
He is not one who can be caught by tradition.
