عجبتI marveled لماat what بلغتyou were told عنيabout me باطلاa falsehood
وظنكand your opinion بيof me فيهin this لعمركby your life أعجبis more astonishing
I marvel at the falsehood you were told about me;
I'm amazed at the lies that reached you about me
And, by your life, your believing it of me is stranger still.
And your assumptions surely astonished me more
ثكلتmay … be bereaved إذاthen نفسيmy soul وعزيand my honor وأسرتيand my family
بفقديby losing me ولاand may … not أدركتI attain ماwhat كنتI used to أطلبseek
May my soul, my honor, and my family then be bereaved
May I be bereaved if I lost my soul, dignity, and family
By losing me, and may I never attain what I sought.
By missing what I never sought to obtain
فكيفwhat, then بمنof someone لاحظno share (read as لا حظ) ليfor me فيin لقائهmeeting him
وسيانand alike عنديto me وصلهhis company والتجنبand avoidance
What, then, of one whose company affords me no pleasure,
So what of one who barely glanced at me when we met
Whose company and avoidance are alike to me?
It's all the same to me, his presence or avoidance
فتقso trust (read as فثق) بأخin a brother أصفاكwho sincerely offered you محضpure مودةaffection
تشاكلare alike منهاof it ماwhat بداis visible والتغيبand what is hidden
So trust a brother who has shown you pure affection,
So trust, my brother, my sincere affection
The same in what is visible and what is hidden.
It remains unchanged, whether we meet or part
