هبت لها ريح فمالت بها
كماjust as تثنىbent غصنa sprig ريحانهof basil
كما تثنى غصن ريحانه
A breeze blew toward her and made her sway,
A breeze blew her way and she swayed with it,
as a sprig of basil bends.
Like a sprig of sweet basil bending.
فتيمتso she enthralled قلبيmy heart وهاجتand stirred لهwithin it
فتيمت قلبي وهاجت له
أحزانهits sorrows قدماof old وأشجانهand its griefs
أحزانه قدما وأشجانه
So she enthralled my heart and stirred within it
My heart was seized, and long dormant sorrows
its sorrows and its griefs of old.
And passions were awakened.
