أَيَرجوdoes he hope رَبيعٌRabīʿ أَنto يؤوبَreturn وَقَدthough already ثَوىhe lay dead
حَكيمٌḤakīm وَأَمسىand now lies شلوهhis remains بمطبّقِin a sealed grave
Does Rabīʿ hope to return, while there lies dead
Ḥakīm, his remains now in a sealed grave?
فَإِنthen if كنتمُyou are قَوماًa people كِراماًnoble فَعَجّلواthen hasten

Then, if you are a noble people, hasten
A bold assault against him, a true proof of your might.
فَإِنbut if لَمnot تَنالواyou attain نيلكمyour aim بِسُيوفكمwith your swords

But if you do not attain your aim with your swords,
Then be women in saffron-perfumed wraps.
وَقولواand say ربيعٌRabīʿ ربّكمyour lord فَاِسجُدواso prostrate yourselves لهbefore him
فَماfor ... not أَنتمُyou إلّاexcept كَمعزىlike the goats of الحبلّقِal-Ḥaballaq
And say, “Rabīʿ is your lord,” so prostrate yourselves before him;
For you are merely like al-Ḥaballaq’s goats.
