All are enamored of Medina’s valleys,
Everyone is enamored with the valleys of the city,
And love for its soil holds sway in hearts.
And its love is firmly rooted in hearts,

Hearts gather at the remembrance of them,
Yearnings gather from their memories,
Yet in its courtyards they split apart.
But in its plains they split up,

إلاّexcept ومنand from عينيَّmy two eyes ينهلُّpours forth الدَّمُthe blood
Never did I recall a lightning flash and watch it
I did not remember a lightning bolt and smell it,
Without blood pouring from my eyes.
Except that tears flow from my eyes,

شوقٌlonging إلىfor مَنْthose who بالمحصّبat al-Muhassab خيَّمُواthey pitched camp
The nightingales sing before dawn, and are stirred
The nightingales sing charmingly arousing it,
By longing for those who pitched camp at al-Muhassab.
A longing for those who camped at Muhassab,

Never did the camel-driver of their longing sing among the lovers
No guide urged on the longing of lovers,
Without al-Hatim and Zamzam urging them onward.
Except their urging on by Hatim and Zamzam.
