بشراً ويهدي لسمعي كل مرغوب
What a letter from you—it has begun to fill me
From you is a book of God that brought me relief
with joy and bring to my ears all I desire!
Good news and guided my hearing to all that is desired
كأنَّهas though it were وهوwhile it is فيin كفيmy palm أقلبهI turn it over
كأنَّه وهو في كفي أقلبه

قميصُ يوسفَ في أجفان يعقوب
It is as though, as I turn it over in my palm,
As if it were, while in my hands I turn its pages
it were Joseph’s shirt upon Jacob’s eyelids.
Joseph's shirt in the eyes of Jacob
