The voice of Ibn Minqar is sweeter than wishes,

The voice of the son of a beak that sings from yearning

So long as it remains attributed to his beak.

Is not attributed to his beak

يثني الحمام فلا يروح لكركر

يثني الحمام فلا يروح لكركر

طرباً ورقَّ بنيه في منقاره

طرباً ورقَّ بنيه في منقاره

It turns the doves back, so they do not go to Karkar,

The dove coos but does not go to warble

In rapture, and has enslaved their young within his beak.

With joy, calling his chicks in his beak
