يا رضيَّ الخِلال يا من تحلّى

يا رضيَّ الخِلال يا من تحلّى

بصفاتٍ تروقُ ظَرفاً ولُطْفَا

بصفاتٍ تروقُ ظَرفاً ولُطْفَا

O you of pleasing character, O you who are adorned

O you who is pleased with the finest qualities,

With qualities delightful in elegance and grace.

O you who is adorned with attributes of elegance and kindness,

قد تفضلت منعماً بكتابٍ

قد تفضلت منعماً بكتابٍ

حلّ أوج السِماك مَعنىً ووصفا

حلّ أوج السِماك مَعنىً ووصفا

You have graciously favored us with a letter

You have graced us with a book,

That reached al-Simāk's summit in meaning and description.

That reached the highest heavens in meaning and description.

فشكرنا حُسْنَ الصنيعِ ابتداء

فشكرنا حُسْنَ الصنيعِ ابتداء

ثم زدناه بعدَ ذلكَ ضِعْفَا

ثم زدناه بعدَ ذلكَ ضِعْفَا

So we first gave thanks for your gracious deed,

We thanked the beauty of this deed in the beginning,

Then, afterward, we doubled our thanks.

Then we doubled our thanks after that.
