أياO سيداًa master حازَhas attained المكارمnoble virtues واللطفاand graciousness
أيا سيداً حازَ المكارم واللطفا
ومنand one whose شأوهhis reach فيin حَلبةthe arena الفضلexcellence لاnot يخفىis hidden
ومن شأوه في حَلبة الفضل لا يخفى
O master who has attained noble virtues and graciousness,
O noble one, endowed with virtues and kindness
And whose reach in the arena of excellence is plain to see.
Whose excellence in the arena of merit is not hidden
لمثلكto one like you يعنوbows القولspeech نظَّمْتI strung عقدهits necklace
لمثلك يعنو القول نظَّمْت عقده
وقرطتُand I adorned with earrings آذانthe ears الحسانbeautiful women بهwith it شَنْفاan earring
وقرطتُ آذان الحسان به شَنْفا
To one like you, speech bows; I have strung its necklace,
For the likes of you, I compose this ode
And adorned beauties' ears with it as an earring.
And adorn the ears of benevolence with it as ornament
وكمand how many لكyou have فيon نهجthe path البلاغةeloquence منof يدa hand (a favor)
وكم لك في نهج البلاغة من يد
هصرتyou bent بهاwith it غصنthe bough الودادaffection معalongside الأكفاthe peers
هصرت بها غصن الوداد مع الأكفا
And how many a hand you have upon eloquence's path,
How much sway do you have in the path of eloquence
With which you bent affection's bough alongside your peers.
With which you have bent the branch of amity along with palms
فداًa ransom لكfor you قدindeed أقررتyou have gladdened بالفضلthrough excellence أعيناًeyes
فداً لك قد أقررت بالفضل أعيناً
فشارفso approach ذراthe summits العلياءglory وامددand stretch out لهاtoward it كفاa hand
فشارف ذرا العلياء وامدد لها كفا
May I be your ransom! You have gladdened eyes through your excellence.
To you I sacrifice, you who with merit made eyes certain
So approach glory's summits and stretch a hand toward it.
So join the highest company and extend to it a palm
ستحظىyou will gain بهاthrough it نعمىa blessing عليكupon you مُفَاضَةlavishly bestowed
ستحظى بها نعمى عليك مُفَاضَة
وترشفand you sip معسولَthe honeyed sweetness الأمانيhopes بهاthrough it رشفاa sipping
وترشف معسولَ الأماني بها رشفا
You shall gain through it a blessing lavished upon you,
With it you will enjoy blessings showered upon you
And through it sip the honeyed sweetness of hopes, sip by sip.
And sip the sweetest of wishes with it as a draft
وهاكand take this بهاwith it إنسانpupil عينeye زمانهhis age
وهاك بها إنسان عين زمانه
ألوكةa message أشواقٍof longings منfrom الأخلصthe most sincere الأصفاthe purest
ألوكة أشواقٍ من الأخلص الأصفا
And herewith receive, O pupil of your age's eye,
And here is a man, the eye of his time
A message of longing from one most sincere and pure.
Yearning desires from the most sincere and pure
تهاديكمit offers you (plural) عَرْفَfragrance الرياضthe gardens تحيةًas a greeting
تهاديكم عَرْفَ الرياض تحيةً
وتنشرand it unfolds منfrom صفوthe purity الودادaffection لكمfor you (plural) صُفْحَاa page
وتنشر من صفو الوداد لكم صُفْحَا
It offers you the fragrance of gardens as a greeting,
They bid you, the fragrance of the gardens in greeting
And unfolds for you a page of pure affection.
And spread for you from the essence of amity, serenity
