ربَّ ساق مقرطق من بني الفرس
خلوناwe were alone بهwith him بغيرwithout رقيبِa watcher
خلونا به بغير رقيبِ
Many a cupbearer in a short tunic, of Persian stock—
A smooth-legged courser from the Persian stock,
we were alone with him, without a watcher.
Left to us, with no prying eyes to watch,
دارتcirculated الراحthe wine بينناamong us بانخفاضٍwith a low bow
دارت الراح بيننا بانخفاضٍ
منهfrom him تصطادsnares غمthe sorrow of كلevery كئيبِgrieving person
منه تصطاد غم كل كئيبِ
The wine went round among us with a low bow
The gentle zephyrs blowing soft between,
from him, snaring the sorrow of every grieving soul.
Bearing the sighs of every grieving wretch.
