ووردة شققت منها لفائفها

عن غادة يستبينا نشْرُها الأرِج

And a rose whose wrappings were split open,

revealing a maiden whose fragrant scent captivates us.

قامت تماثيل سرو في جوانبها

بغير سوق تراءت بينها فرج

Likenesses of cypresses stood along its sides,

without trunks; gaps appeared between them.

تبين منها محاريب منكسة

من اليواقيت تصبو نحوها المهج

Inverted prayer niches appear within it,

made of rubies, toward which souls yearn.
