O spreading tree of the valley, may rain water you

in abundance, joining its trailing hem to its drops.

I have not forgotten my day in your shelter—how lovely

the creeping side-lock of your dusky shade!

When I made my mount kneel beside the river

    beside which life in days gone by was sweet to me;

where the breeze flowed over it, softly murmuring,

as though whispering some of its secrets to it.

So its surface creased beneath the breeze, and it began

to tell you its tidings through its burbling.

How sweet that breeze that swept over

Barada, its spray racing the breeze’s trailing hem!

I came away [from it], steeped in fragrance,

from the blossoms the garden had bestowed on it.
