ماthere is no علىbeyond فضْلِthe excellence of يومناour day منany مزيدincrease
ما على فضْلِ يومنا من مزيد
جاءit came مُسْتَوْجِباًdeserving لشكرٍof thanks مَديدlasting
جاء مُسْتَوْجِباً لشكرٍ مَديد
Nothing can be added to the excellence of our day;
It has come deserving of lasting thanks.
غايةthe end of الصَّوْمthe fast آذنتناnotified us بعِتْقٍof deliverance
غاية الصَّوْم آذنتنا بعِتْقٍ
مُنقِذٍsaving منfrom عَذَابِthe torment of يومٍa day شديدdreadful
مُنقِذٍ من عَذَابِ يومٍ شديد
The fast’s end has heralded our deliverance,
Saving us from the torment of a dreadful day.
وسَماعand hearing الحديثِthe hadith أَحياrevived قلوباًhearts
وسَماع الحديثِ أَحيا قلوباً
ترتَجيthat hope for القُربَnearness فيin مَقامِthe station of الشهودwitnessing
ترتَجي القُربَ في مَقامِ الشهود
And hearing the hadith has brought hearts to life,
That hope for nearness in the station of witnessing.
كيفhow لاnot وهوَand it is هَدْيُthe guidance of خيرِthe best شفيعٍintercessor
كيف لا وهوَ هَدْيُ خيرِ شفيعٍ
فيamong البراياall creatures لدىbefore الحميدthe Praiseworthy المجيدthe Glorious
في البرايا لدى الحميد المجيد
How could it not, when it is the guidance of the best intercessor
Among all creatures before the Praiseworthy, the Glorious?
خصّهsingled him out اللهGod بالفضائلwith virtues طُرّاًall of them
خصّه الله بالفضائل طُرّاً
وحباهُand endowed him بالعزمwith resolve والتسْديدand right guidance
وحباهُ بالعزم والتسْديد
God singled him out with every virtue,
And endowed him with resolve and right guidance.
سيّماespecially جامعthe Compendium of البخاريِّal-Bukhari أَضحتْhas come to be
سيّما جامع البخاريِّ أَضحتْ
فيwithin مطاويهits folds بُغيةُwhat is sought by المستفيدthe learner
في مطاويه بُغيةُ المستفيد
Especially al-Bukhari’s Compendium, which now holds
Within its folds what the learner seeks.
عَلَمٌa luminary فِيin الحديثhadith نبراسُa beacon of عِلمٍknowledge
عَلَمٌ فِي الحديث نبراسُ عِلمٍ
ذُوpossessing مَزَايَاmerits أَوْفَتْexceeded عَلىbeyond التَّعْديدِcounting
ذُو مَزَايَا أَوْفَتْ عَلى التَّعْديدِ
A luminary in hadith, a beacon of knowledge,
Possessing merits beyond all counting.
نالgained منfrom فَيضهhis outpouring الورىall creation بَرَكاتٍblessings
نال من فَيضه الورى بَرَكاتٍ
وارتوىand drank his fill كلُّevery عَالِمٍscholar صِنْدِيدstalwart
وارتوى كلُّ عَالِمٍ صِنْدِيد
All creation has gained blessings from his outpouring,
And every stalwart scholar has drunk his fill.
فجزاهso may He reward him الإِلهGod خيرَthe best جزاءٍreward
فجزاه الإِله خيرَ جزاءٍ
معْwith ذويthose possessing القُرْبnearness فيin جِنانthe gardens of الخلودِeternity
معْ ذوي القُرْب في جِنان الخلودِ
So may God grant him the finest reward,
With those near to Him in the gardens of eternity.
وحَبَاand may He endow شيخناour shaykh الكريمnoble السجاياin character
وحَبَا شيخنا الكريم السجايا
بهباتٍwith gifts مقرونةٍaccompanied بسعُودby good fortune
بهباتٍ مقرونةٍ بسعُود
And may He endow our shaykh, noble in character,
With gifts accompanied by good fortune.
كمhow often لهto his credit فيin العُلومthe sciences إِحرازُattainment of سَبْقprecedence
كم له في العُلوم إِحرازُ سَبْق
وارتواءٌand drinking one’s fill منfrom وِرْدِهاtheir watering place المورودfrequented
وارتواءٌ من وِرْدِها المورود
How often he has won precedence in the sciences,
And drunk his fill from their frequented watering place!
قدْindeed رقىhe ascended فيin الحديثhadith أَسمىthe loftiest المراقيheights
قدْ رقى في الحديث أَسمى المراقي
واكتسىand clothed himself منfrom فخارهits glory المشهودmanifest
واكتسى من فخاره المشهود
He has indeed ascended the loftiest heights in hadith,
And clothed himself in its manifest glory.
ياoh حبَاهُmay He endow him الإِلهGod أربحَthe most rewarding فضلٍbounty
يا حبَاهُ الإِله أربحَ فضلٍ
مَاthere is no لهfor him عنaway from ذُرىthe summits of العُلاeminence منany مَحِيدturning aside
مَا له عن ذُرى العُلا من مَحِيد
Oh, may God grant him the most rewarding bounty!
He has no turning aside from the summits of eminence.
