Your skittishness is all the excuse I need for your aloofness,

O gazelle, I would ransom you with all humankind.

ولم أشكُ بأني منكِ في خَلَدٍ

ولم أشكُ بأني منكِ في خَلَدٍ

وقد أبى اللحظ إِلا نفي تَشكيكي

وقد أبى اللحظ إِلا نفي تَشكيكي

And I have never doubted that I am in your thoughts,

And your glance has done nothing but dispel my doubt.

قد تنظر العين عن حبٍّ وتنكرُهُ

قد تنظر العين عن حبٍّ وتنكرُهُ

وفي الفعائِل ما يقضي ليدينكِ

وفي الفعائِل ما يقضي ليدينكِ

The eye may gaze out of love and yet deny it,

Yet in your deeds lies a verdict that condemns you.
