ألاَ غِبَّ إِهداء السلام تحيةً

ألاَ غِبَّ إِهداء السلام تحيةً

كعَرْفِ الشذا العطري بَلْ هي أعطر

Lo, after offering peace, a greeting,

like the scent of aromatic perfume—rather, it is more fragrant.

ذكرتم لنا والودّ عندك بيّنٌ

ذكرتم لنا والودّ عندك بيّنٌ

وعندي فيما يعلمُ اللّهُ أكثرُ

وعندي فيما يعلمُ اللّهُ أكثرُ

You mentioned to us—and your affection is plain,

and mine, as God knows, is greater—

بأن لكم من مِصرَ آثار رغبة

بأن لكم من مِصرَ آثار رغبة

وأسباب خير فضلها ليس يُنكرُ

وأسباب خير فضلها ليس يُنكرُ

that you have from Egypt signs of eager interest

and means of good whose merit cannot be denied:

إِجازات أشياخٍ كرامٍ أعزةٍ

إِجازات أشياخٍ كرامٍ أعزةٍ

مآثرهم بالفضل تطوى وتنشر

مآثرهم بالفضل تطوى وتنشر

authorizations from noble, honored elders,

whose noble deeds, marked by excellence, are folded and unfolded.

ونحن بقرب منكم الآن والرجَا

ونحن بقرب منكم الآن والرجَا

And we are near you now, and our hope is

greater companionship.
