كأنَّas though رقومَthe designs الضربِof the stamping طيرٌbirds حوائمٌhovering
كأنَّ رقومَ الضربِ طيرٌ حوائمٌ
أتتْthey came تستقيto draw water منهfrom it ورُودَcoming to drink at الجداولِthe streams
أتتْ تستقي منه ورُودَ الجداولِ
As though the stamped designs were hovering birds,
Like the lines of calligraphy are hovering birds
That came to drink from it as they come to streams.
That came to drink from the roses of streams
ألستَdo you not تراهُمْsee them قدalready أتاحواthey provided لصيدهاto catch them
ألستَ تراهُمْ قد أتاحوا لصيدها
شباكاًnets فألقتهاand so they cast them بكِفَّةِinto the snare of حابلِa trapper
شباكاً فألقتها بكِفَّةِ حابلِ
Do you not see how they have laid out, to catch those birds,
Do you not see them make available for catching it
Nets that cast them into a trapper’s snare?
Nets, so it casts them with the palm of a roper
