علىon الغصنthe branch إِهزاجاًwarbling فتأخذand so it takes بالعَقْلِhold of the mind
على الغصن إِهزاجاً فتأخذ بالعَقْلِ
And a sparrow of the mulberry tree sings in rhythm,
A berry bird sings a tune
on the branch, warbling, and so captivates the mind.
Perched on a branch swaying, so sane
إِذاwhen ماemphatic particle غدتit begins تزقوto chirp حكىmimics لكfor you صوتهاits voice
إِذا ما غدت تزقو حكى لك صوتها
صريرَthe creaking اهتزازِrocking التختِthe bed فيon ليلةa night الوصلof union
صريرَ اهتزازِ التختِ في ليلة الوصل
When it begins to chirp, its voice mimics for you
If it chirps in the morn, its voice recites
the creaking of the bed as it rocks on a night of union.
