وميثاءًand a soft, level tract لاnot تحتلُّهاenters it الشمسthe sun ثرةlush
وميثاءً لا تحتلُّها الشمس ثرة
تهدّلdrooped فيهاin it بالجنىwith fruit ناعُمtender القُضْبthe boughs
تهدّل فيها بالجنى ناعُم القُضْب
And a lush tract of soft ground the sun does not enter,
A refuge where the sun's beams never pierce
Tender boughs drooped there, laden with fruit.
With slender, bending branches, laden with fruit,
كأنَّas though عناقَthe embrace الغُصنthe bough منهاfrom it لشبههِof its fellow
كأنَّ عناقَ الغُصن منها لشبههِ
تعانُقُthe mutual embrace نشْوانينْtwo drunken men فيat منتهىthe height الشُرْبِof drinking
تعانُقُ نشْوانينْ في منتهى الشُرْبِ
As though a bough’s embrace of its fellow there
As though the embrace of its boughs was like
Were the embrace of two drunken men at drinking’s height.
The embrace of beloved companions in their drunkenness
