وبستاناًand a garden غرستُI planted بهin it بِقاعاًplots
وبستاناً غرستُ به بِقاعاً
منof الآدابِliterature موشيةَembroidering الرقيمِthe written page
من الآدابِ موشيةَ الرقيمِ
And a garden where I planted plots
And a garden I have planted, with fields
Of literature, embroidering the written page.
Of fine manners lined with guidance.
يحيطُsurrounds بهaround it سِياجٌa fence منof نسيمٍa breeze
يحيطُ به سِياجٌ من نسيمٍ
بهwith it يغنىhas no need النديمُthe boon companion عنof النديمِthe boon companion
به يغنى النديمُ عن النديمِ
A fence of breeze surrounds it;
It's fenced with a breeze,
With it, a boon companion needs no other companion.
Where the friend is independent of any friend.
كأجنحةِlike the wings of الطواوسthe peacocks زاهياتٌradiant
كأجنحةِ الطواوس زاهياتٌ
أوor الخِيلانthe beauty spots فيon خدٍّa cheek لطيمِslapped
أو الخِيلان في خدٍّ لطيمِ
Radiant as the wings of peacocks,
As bright as peacock wings,
Or beauty spots upon a slapped cheek.
Or smooth horses on a gentle cheek.
