And a dark-eyed, dark-lipped, graceful one with an enchanting glance,
The enchanting, bewitching glance of the charmer enraptures me,
Delicate in the subtleties of coquetry, he weakened my fortitude.
Slender, delicate, subtle beyond measure or bound.

فيشتاقه طرفي وتفقده يدي
I see him with memory’s eye if his person is far away;
In memory's eye I see his form by the shore,
So my gaze longs for him, and my hand misses him.
And my sight yearns, my hand seeks for what is lost.

And if I do not endure the cruelty of his coquetry,
Though I have not the patience to bear his cruelty,
Whenever I draw near him, he withdraws from me and goes far away.
When I draw near he turns from me, keeps his distance.
