للّهِto God (in admiration) إِفريزٌa cornice كروضةِlike the garden of خُرَّمٍKhurram
حُفَّتْwas encircled بورْدٍwith roses مُعْلَمٍadorned ببهارِwith yellow oxeye flowers
God be praised for a cornice like Khurram's garden,
Ringed with roses adorned with yellow oxeye flowers;
وسُرادَقand a pavilion أضْحَتbecame معالمُthe patterns of وشيهits embroidery
قيْدَa fetter for العيونthe eyes ونزهةand a delight for الأَبصارthe sight
And a pavilion whose embroidered patterns have become
A fetter for the eyes and a delight to the sight.
فكأنّماso it is as though الوشّاءthe embroiderer ألْبَسclothed عِطفَهits flank
حليَthe jewels of القِيانsinging girls وحُلّةand a robe of الأزهارthe flowers
So it is as though the embroiderer had clothed its flank
In singing girls' jewels and a robe of flowers.
فتخالso you imagine فيهin it الوردَthe roses خالطَmingled with نَرْجِساًnarcissus
واللازوردand lapis lazuli مطرّزاًembroidered ببهارwith yellow oxeye flowers
So you would fancy roses there mingled with narcissus,
And lapis lazuli embroidered with yellow oxeye flowers.
وكأنَّand as though بَرْدthe coolness of الظلthe shade تحتbeneath رواقهits portico
فيin القيظthe summer heat مسترقstolen منfrom الاسحارthe hours before dawn
And it is as though the shade's coolness beneath its portico
In summer's heat were stolen from the hours before dawn.
قدindeed راقdelights زبرجُهits finery وطابَand is pleasant مقيلُهits noonday resting place
فزرىso it puts to shame بحسنِthe beauty of الروضةthe garden المعطارfragrant
Indeed, its finery delights, and its noonday resting place is pleasant;
So it puts the fragrant garden's beauty to shame.
