Here is a message for you from a dweller in a covert,

Among you, one of the dun, far-ranging camels has been made to kneel.

Who has settled among you, one of the white gazelles.

قصارى أمره تذكار قصر

قصارى أمره تذكار قصر

له من قاسيون إلى عزاز

له من قاسيون إلى عزاز

His mission goes no further than recalling a palace—

His sole concern is the remembrance of a palace,

a palace of his, from Qasioun to Azaz.

به سِرْب شَدِنَّ على المراعي

به سِرْب شَدِنَّ على المراعي

بألحاظ تذكرك المغازي

بألحاظ تذكرك المغازي

Therein, upon the pastures, is a herd of young gazelles,

Within it is a herd, grown to maturity in the pastures,

with glances that recall campaigns to you—

With glances that remind you of battles,

بفَتْكٍ دونه فَتَكاتُ عمرو

بفَتْكٍ دونه فَتَكاتُ عمرو

وسِحْرٍ دونه شعر المنازي

وسِحْرٍ دونه شعر المنازي

with a deadliness before which ʿAmr’s deadly exploits are as nothing,

With lethal force before which Amr’s deadly assaults pale,

and a magic before which al-Manāzī’s poetry is as nothing.

And enchantment before which al-Manazi’s poetry pales.

منازلنا سقيت الغيث سحّا

منازلنا سقيت الغيث سحّا

وتسكاباً لطيبك يا منازِ

وتسكاباً لطيبك يا منازِ

Our dwellings—may the rain water you in torrents,

Our dwellings, may rain water you in torrents,

pouring down for your sweetness, O dwellings!

And pour abundantly, for your sweetness, O dwellings!
