A day by the valley of al-Durayj and Maʿrabā,

The day I crossed the valley's rugged pass

طارت بنا خيل السرور وازلفت

حتى حللنا في مغانيه الحُبا

حتى حللنا في مغانيه الحُبا

The steeds of joy flew with us and brought us near,

Horses of joy bore us, drawing near,

Until we loosened our knee-wraps in its haunts.

Until we reached its groves of love.
