لك الطائر الميمون فاسرج به طِرفاً

لك الطائر الميمون فاسرج به طِرفاً

وسر في أمان اللّه إِن له لُطفا

وسر في أمان اللّه إِن له لُطفا

Yours is the bird of good omen; so saddle a noble steed under its auspices.

For you is the auspicious bird, so saddle it and depart

And travel in God's protection, for He is gracious.

And travel safely, for God is gentle and kind

وصعِّد وضوِّب نظرةً بعد نظرةٍ

وصعِّد وضوِّب نظرةً بعد نظرةٍ

فما ثَم إِلاّ الخير فامدد له كفا

فما ثَم إِلاّ الخير فامدد له كفا

And raise and lower your gaze, glance after glance.

Ascend and look around again and again

For there is nothing there but goodness; so extend a hand toward it.

For there is only good, so extend to it your palm

ولذ بحمى الإِخلاص وارفع به يداً

ولذ بحمى الإِخلاص وارفع به يداً

وشارف درُى الآمال فهي به تكفى

وشارف درُى الآمال فهي به تكفى

And seek refuge in sincerity's sanctuary, and raise a hand through it.

And take refuge in the protection of sincerity, and with it raise your hand

And approach the summits of hope, for through it they are fulfilled.

And aspire to reach the heights of hopes, for with it they suffice

فسعيك تأهيل لكلِّ رغيبةٍ

فسعيك تأهيل لكلِّ رغيبةٍ

سترشف معسولَ الأماني به رشفا

سترشف معسولَ الأماني به رشفا

For your striving makes you worthy of every coveted blessing.

Your effort qualifies you for every desire

You will sip the honeyed sweetness of wishes through it, sip by sip.

You will sip the sweetness of wishes with it in sips

وحسبك أنفاس يَحفّ بها الرجا

وحسبك أنفاس يَحفّ بها الرجا

ليعرفَ من بحر القبول بها غَرفا

ليعرفَ من بحر القبول بها غَرفا

And breaths surrounded by hope are enough for you,

It is enough for you breaths enveloped by hope

So that through them one may learn to draw from the sea of acceptance.

So it knows from the sea of acceptance it drew gulps

فمن ضارعٍ تحت الظلام وخاشعٍ

فمن ضارعٍ تحت الظلام وخاشعٍ

يبيت بها ينحاز للمورد الأصفى

يبيت بها ينحاز للمورد الأصفى

For they come from a suppliant beneath the darkness and a humble worshipper,

For whoever contends in darkness and is devout

Who spends the night with them, turning toward the purest watering-place.

Spends the night with it, inclining to the most pure spring

يُرصِّعُ تيجان الإِجابة في الدجى

يُرصِّعُ تيجان الإِجابة في الدجى

بدرّ دعاء ظَلّ يرصفُه رصفا

بدرّ دعاء ظَلّ يرصفُه رصفا

He studs the crowns of answered prayer in the darkness

Adorning in the darkness the crowns of response

With pearls of supplication he has kept setting in ordered rows.

With a prayer that spent the night polishing it smoothly

يحاول نصراً للغزاة وقوةً

يحاول نصراً للغزاة وقوةً

من اللّه تزداد الطغاة بها ضعفا

من اللّه تزداد الطغاة بها ضعفا

He seeks victory for the warriors, and strength

Seeking victory for the invaders and strength

From God, through which the tyrants grow weaker.

From God, by which the tyrants grow weaker

فيا قاصداً ذاكَ المخيّم أنَّه

فيا قاصداً ذاكَ المخيّم أنَّه

مَناطُ اجتناء البِرّ والرفد والزلفى

مَناطُ اجتناء البِرّ والرفد والزلفى

So, you who are bound for that encampment—truly it is

So O you seeking that camp, it is

The place to reap goodness, bounty, and nearness.

The place of collecting righteousness, care and intimacy

وهاك بها إِنسانَ عينِ أولي النهى

وهاك بها إِنسانَ عينِ أولي النهى

حديقة فكر تجتني ودّها قطفا

حديقة فكر تجتني ودّها قطفا

And receive with it the pupil of the eye of the wise:

And here it is, if you are forbidden from the wise

A garden of thought from which you pluck a harvest of affection.

A garden of thought that reaps its friendship as harvest

تحييك إِجلالاً بطيب تحيةٍ

تحييك إِجلالاً بطيب تحيةٍ

تثير له في كل شارقة عَرفا

تثير له في كل شارقة عَرفا

It greets you reverently with a sweet salutation.

That greets you with reverence in the scent of a good greeting

It stirs a fragrance for him at every sunrise.

Stirring for it in every dawn a custom

وتنمي لك البشرى بأربح مقصِد

وتنمي لك البشرى بأربح مقصِد

من الخير قد أعيَتْ مآثره الوصفا

من الخير قد أعيَتْ مآثره الوصفا

And brings you glad tidings of the most rewarding destination

And it brings you glad tidings of the most profitable pursuit

Of goodness, whose noble achievements have defied description.

Of goodness, whose virtues elude description

فمثلك من يستامُ درَّ شنوفها

فمثلك من يستامُ درَّ شنوفها

بكفِّ اعتزام كلَّما أطلعت شنفا

بكفِّ اعتزام كلَّما أطلعت شنفا

For one like you bids for the pearls of its earrings,

The like of you who braces the branches of its loftiness

With the hand of resolve, whenever it brings forth an earring.

With the palm of determination whenever it climbs high

فسعيك مشكور وجدك مقبلٌ

فسعيك مشكور وجدك مقبلٌ

ورفدك مبذول وبشرك لا يخفى

ورفدك مبذول وبشرك لا يخفى

For your striving is appreciated, and your fortune is favorable.

So your effort is appreciated, your endeavor accepted

And your bounty is freely given, and your cheer is not concealed.

And your care given, and your tidings undisguised

وكم لك في بذل المكارم من يدٍ

وكم لك في بذل المكارم من يدٍ

هصرت بها غصن الوداد مع الأكفا

هصرت بها غصن الوداد مع الأكفا

And how many a hand you have in bestowing noble favors,

And how much generosity is in your open hand

With which you bent down affection's branch, along with other hands.

With which you made the branch of affection fruitful

وإِني وإن طالت مسافة بيننا

وإِني وإن طالت مسافة بيننا

لأعلمُ حقاً إنِّيَ الأخلص الأصفى

لأعلمُ حقاً إنِّيَ الأخلص الأصفى

And I, though the distance between us has grown long,

And even if the distance between us grows long

Know for certain that I am the most sincere, the purest.

I truly know that I am the most loyal and pure

وودي بظهر الغيب شاهد صدقه

وودي بظهر الغيب شاهد صدقه

لديك فلم أحتج لتعريفه كشفا

لديك فلم أحتج لتعريفه كشفا

And my love in absence—the proof of its sincerity

And my love bears witness to its sincerity unseen

Is with you; so I needed no unveiling to make it known.

For you, so I had no need to reveal it openly

وأن حجاباً عاقني عنك مؤذنٌ

وأن حجاباً عاقني عنك مؤذنٌ

بأني سأتلو منه غب النوى صُحفا

بأني سأتلو منه غب النوى صُحفا

And that a veil which kept me from you foretells

And that a veil has prevented me from you, foretelling

That after separation I shall recite pages from it.

That I will recite from behind it the intimacy of wishes in script

سلام على علياك يذكو شميمه

سلام على علياك يذكو شميمه

مدى الدهر ما خَطتْ بنانُ الوفا حرفا

مدى الدهر ما خَطتْ بنانُ الوفا حرفا

Peace upon your lofty station, its fragrance ever strengthening,

Peace be upon your heights, whose fragrance

Through all time, so long as loyalty's fingertips trace a letter.

Stirs throughout time wherever loyalty etched a letter
