ولاعبٍ بالنَّرِد أبْصَرتُه

ولاعبٍ بالنَّرِد أبْصَرتُه

والزارُ لا يعصيهِ فيما يرومُ

والزارُ لا يعصيهِ فيما يرومُ

And I saw a backgammon player,

I saw a young man playing with dice

And the die does not defy him in what he seeks.

And fate does not disobey him in what he seeks

فهلْ ترى يقصيهِ اعداده

فهلْ ترى يقصيهِ اعداده

وهو شقيقُ البدْرِ وهيَ النجومُ

وهو شقيقُ البدْرِ وهيَ النجومُ

So do you think its numbers would turn him away,

So do you think his fortune will abandon him?

When he is the full moon’s brother, and they are the stars?

For he is the full moon and the stars are his sisters
