The earth’s regions have smiling abodes.
The horizons of earth are laughing meadows
And the eye of the rain clouds pours down tears.
While the eyes of the beloved are shedding tears

And the face of the earth beams with smiles.
And the face of the earth is smiling with blossoms
And the singer of the great trees is denied sleep.

And branches, as though intoxication were in them,
And branches as if rejoicing
Have acted young, though their boughs are gray.
Though fading at their tips

The nights of sorrow have indeed grown long, so grant leave.
Long have been the nights of worry so permit
Resistant to parting, yet yielding in union.
The obstinate one of estrangement to be obedient in reunion

And none pours it for you but a gazelle,
And none may water them but a gazelle
Resistant to parting, yet yielding in union.
The obstinate one of estrangement to be obedient in reunion

لأَوْدتwould have brought death بالخُبَعْثِنَةto the lion الشجيعthe valiant
لأَوْدت بالخُبَعْثِنَة الشجيع
A wine that, if it struck on a day of battle,
A medicine, had it been served on a day of war
Would have slain the valiant lion.
It would have made the brave one collapse

And if it passed over the forbearance of Ibn Qays,
And had it passed by the patience of Ibn Qays
He would become like a suckling infant.
He would have become like a helpless child
