إذاif غرتcharged خيولُsteeds الهجرseparation يوماًone day
إذا غرت خيولُ الهجر يوماً
عليكَupon you، فكنْthen be لهاagainst them ثَبْتَsteadfast الجَنانِthe heart
عليكَ، فكنْ لها ثَبْتَ الجَنانِ
If the steeds of separation one day charge
If the horses of departure ever charge against you,
Upon you, stand against them with a steadfast heart.
Be as steadfast as iron in the face of them.
وإِنand if خانbetrayed الصديقthe friend فلاthen no عجيبٌwonder
وإِن خان الصديق فلا عجيبٌ
أَليسare not الأَصدقاءthe friends بنيchildren of الزّمانtime
أَليس الأَصدقاء بني الزّمان
And if a friend betrays you, it is no wonder:
And if a friend should betray you one day, do not grieve-
Are not friends the children of time?
For are not friends but guests in the home of time?
